2.5 million Euro of funding for Crohn's Disease research

In Crohn’s disease, formation of fistulas is a very painful manifestation of the disease which is difficult to treat. The Tytgat group set-up a unique collaboration entitled “AMFIBIO” with Prof.dr. Geert D’Haens, Dr. Krisztina Gecse and Christianne Buskens, from the IBD Center and Clinical Genetics and Surgery departments of the Amsterdam University Medical Center. Together they will molecularly map out the problem of fistula formation and ultimately eliminate Crohn’s disease.

A large research grant is provided by The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust in New York that will enable this study of the cells that cause Crohn’s disease fistula formation by means of specific single cell sequencing technology, and explore novel therapies. They can also follow why therapy works in some patients and not in others.
